About Us

Welcome to The Fishing Bug, Kevin and Sam's fishing blog.

Our aim to fish as much as possible, share our stories and inspire you to pick up a fishing rod!

We hope to continue to widen our network of amazing fishing friends along the way and promote the sport to anyone interested in fishing for the first time or returning after a long break.

So what's our story?

For Kevin, it all started that fateful birthday morning over 30 years ago when he unwrapped a shiny new beach caster and reel ready loaded with line! Fast forward many rods later and it's safe to say he's been hooked ever since.

Sam first encountered fishing a little further afield. Having spent early childhood in the Middle East, Sam took regular trips with his dad and cousins to the river Tigris in Iraq, enjoying a more traditional approach of fishing with a simple hook on the end of a hand line!

Sam met Fishing Bug partner and long time friend Kevin one afternoon at a local lake after Sam decided to skip a class (not recommended) and take a detour home via a new lake not too far from school.

Sam finally picked up a fishing rod again in 2012 after a 10 year break, and needless to say he got The Fishing Bug! So the Facebook page was set up as a way of recording our adventures and sharing them with the angling community,

We both had time out from fishing for various reasons and eventually got the bug back! We know many of you may have experience time off and hope our stories and thoughts inspire you to dust off your fishing rods. There's nothing quite like hitting that first good fish after having time out!

This isn't a "how to" guide. We don't claim to know it all, or hold any record for any species. We are students of fishing, and there's so much to learn in this sport that there really isn't any hope for us graduating anytime soon!

We enjoy fishing for all species
Sponsorship and affiliation is great to have but we wouldn't be seen dead with any person or organisation doing it only for the money. We are lucky to be affiliated with Fishing Hut, as they share our vision for the sport. The enjoyment we get from fishing and friendships we make are way more important that the tackle brand we use.
